What is so interesting about Peruvian culture? |
My parents are native's from Peru. They have never really taught me anything about Peru except that they were raised from nothing, and had a hard childhood.
Anybody else living in Peru currently? Is peru known for anything interesting? Is there culture cool? What are three neat things i can research regarding Peruvian culture?
Thank you |

Machu Picchu, Cuzco, and the Incans are what people generally think of when they think of Peru, but here's a link that will tell you a little bit about Peru.
Peru makes me think of Inka Cola though. :] |

I am not living in Peru, I had been there for work some years ago.
People get confused when they talk about a foreign culture. They are going to ruins (Machu Pichu), visiting touristic places and learning facts about an Empire that disappear 500 years ago. they buy some crap as a souvenir and that's it.
Now people who live there rarely is doing that, the peruvian culture is cosmopolitan and european in Lima and others big cities , more folck and tradition depends where you are.
Is like when travel companies sell trips to USA with images of cowboys riding horses in Colorado, that may be is a part but is not the definition of American culture |

There are many interesting things in Peru, i am going to tell you some of them:
The very diverse cultures and civilizations from 4000 B.C that is called andean culture. The andean culture domesticated plants and give a great contribution to the world such as Potatoes, Quinua, corn, yuca (manioc), Yacon and many other tubers and herbs. Peru is very rich in silver, gold and other minerals and by the 16th beard spanish took advantage of peruvian richness when they conquered the Incas empire whose most famous legacy became one of the most amazing new 7 wonders of the new world: Machu Picchu. Not to mentioned the delicious culinary or the beautiful landscapes from the Amazon, through the highlands and the coast of Peru which make this country special for tourism. In my recent visit there, I thought it was interesting that farmers in the Andes seem to be doing things pretty much exactly the same as they would have done 200 years ago. Those people are very poor but trade not so much in money as they do in favors and supporting each other as a community. Also, they are very proud of their heritage and history-even the Catholic church added elements of their religion when the Spanish conquered Peru.
You should ask your parents more about their childhood and other things they know about their country. It will be good for you to know more about their heritage, and also you'll get to know them much better. As you get older you'll appreciate knowing more about them and your family's history. |
