IN MY PERSONAL OPINION, NATIONAL, BUT IF YOU WANT MY ADVICE, FROM SAN JOSE TO TAMARINDO IS AT LEAST 4 AND A HALF HOURS DRIVE... FROM TAMARINDO TO ARENAL ABOUT THE SAME AND FROM ARENAL TO SAN JOSE IS AROUND 3 HOURS, MY RECOMENDATION IS THAT TAKE A LOCAL FLIGTH FROM SJO TO TAMARINDO WITH NATURE AIR OR SANSA IS AROUND 1 HOUR AND 30 MIN, AND FROM TAMA TO ARENAL AS WELL, IF YOU TAKE TO ACCOUNT THE BUDGET ON HOW MUCH YOU ARE GOING TO PAY ON DAILY BASIS FOR THE CAR AND ADD THE PETROL TO IT AND THE INSURECE, IM SURE FLYING WILL BE LIKE THE SAME OR MAYBE LESS..

You dont necasarily need a 4x4 for this trip, what i would get is a 4x2 like a Suzuki Jimny. Also the insurance, well i would say get it because driving in Costa Rica is kinda dangerous (this is a costarrican saying this hehe) and also just rent it from the cheapest rent-a-car, it wont make any difference. Other than that, enjoy the trip and drive safe :)

4X2.......CDW is mandatory.......expensive......more than the car.......
Sign up for delta sky miles.......american express........CDW is covered for 27 bucks........then cancel the card when you get home...that's what I did........saved 25 bucks a day........make sure you get the CDW waiver from AE and rent from them.....insurance is necessary......or they will bust your @ss....... |
