What is the best way (not via plane) to get from San Jose, Costa Rica to Tortuguero?

I've read that have to travel from San Jose to Limon and then take a boat to Tortuguero. That is fine with me. If you have any information on names of charter companies, etc that do this, trip, that would be great.

JD
get the bus from san jose to guapiles. at guapiles at the same bus stop, there is another bus to take that leaves you where to take the boat and the boat arrives at tortuguero. you won't get lost. its easy to get there.

The easiest way is by tour as the former respondent says. The alternatives are quite time consuming. The alternative way (via guapiles) works but the boat does not run every day and only runs once a day. You may able to charter a boat any day however. If you know where you are going to be staying, they can tell you when the boats run and the cheapest way to get there.

hello

I work in a spanish school where students like to travel every weekend. The best way to go there is with a tour company.
they include all meals, transportation from/to san jose and boat tours.

The most popular place is laguna lodge.

good luck

Tico Roots.
The way JD is telling you is the public transportation, there is a big bus stop in central San Jose that only offers busses going to Limon, its really good, youll be surprised alot of tourist go that way and its alot cheaper, you just have to be good at asking your way through while your here.
But if you like to be more on the safer side, not risking your self of getting robbed, then its better when your here to go by private transportation, once youre here you will see alot of tourist info offices, just go to one of those and they will guide you all the way.
