Zip lining is alright. You need to go to Arenal to see the volcano erupt. It is an active volcano that erupts regularly. Very cool experience. Also, you can visit La Fortuna falls. It is a HUGE water fall and you can swim around in the crystal blue waters around it. If you are a surfer, you cannot miss surfing Pavones in the south. That place is gorgeous and wicked at the same time. Visit Monte Verde cloud forest as well. There, you can take a night time rain forest hike. That was one of the coolest things I have ever done. Be sure to check out Tamarindo for the night life. There are lots of Europeans and Canadians here so you are sure to have a good time if you are looking to hook up or just hang out with cool peeps. Last thing, make sure to have an Imperial for me! |

The coolest thing that I did in Costa Rica was definetely visiting Arenal Volcano. We went to the Arenal Observatory had drinks all day on the observation deck watching and feeling the rumbling of the very active volcano. We also had a room facing the volcano with a view of lava coming down at night. The hanging bridges in Arenal were very cool too. We saw a howler monkey jump all over our bridge and the park there was very lush and beautiful.
Also, in Manuel Antonio we took a tour with Juan Brenes at Aguila tours. We were taken to these mangroves where the boat stopped and a whole family of monkeys jumped on the boat and even on our head and shoulder where we fed them pieces of bananas. A great experience! On the way to Manuel Antonio we stopped a the crocodile bridge and saw many many huge crocs in the water and saw it almost eat a large bird.
The waterfalls at La Paz Waterfall Gardens were gorgeous too, but I think it was affected by the earthquake just recently
Rafting at Sarapiqui river I hear is fun also
Enjoy your trip! |

Eat the local foods! The food is wonderful and not too spicy. If you love beans and rice (“gallo pinto”), Costa Rica will be your paradise. Prepare to feast on exotic fruits such as papayas, mangoes, pineapples, passion fruit, and mamones for breakfast every morning. Unbelievably romantic. You will see mamones everywhere in Costa Rica. They are a small, round, red fruit with soft spines all over it. You peel off the skin to expose a large seed covered by a fruit that tastes like a peeled grape. |
