There is a penalty for 10 quetzales per day if you are staying more than the allowed days. Usually this penalty is not charged if you leave the country, since the airline is the one that checks passport.
Another thing you can do is solicit an extent of the visa in the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Guatemala. Usually the normal extent for a visa to enter Guatemala is 60 days not 30 days so you will probably wont have any problem getting it. |

Well, you can try leaving the country for a while, and re-enter with a new visa. Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, and Belize are a few hours away. Ask when you get here, really. You might have to just pay a fee, but I think you can just get your visa renewed. I know a lot of people who have been living here hassle-free for years on a tourist visa. Money moves things here. |

It is customary to grant 90 day visas to people arriving by plane. The visa covers all Central American countries except Belize. The visa can be extended once for an additional 90 days. I don't think you will have a problem. |
