Dos Pinos is a cooperative of dairy farmers that started its operation in the early 50's in Costa Rica, where the cooperative picked the milk from the producers and they process it. It is pretty much how it works today, with the difference that it is now one of the largest industry in the country, and probably one the the largest and more tecnologically advanced dairy industry in latin america. Dos Pinos has a whide selection of products, from bottled water, cheeses, juices, yogurts, ice creams, etc exports to
central america, mexico and dominican republic, with the interesting characteristic that it is run as a cooperative, so many people (all the producers) benefit from it, rather than one big large corporation. |
