What is there to do in Costa Rica during the rainy season?

Are people actually out?

There is a lot to do, if you don't mind the rain.
Usually it rains in the afternoon, so enjoy outdoor activities in the morning.
If you are going to the beach, you probably won't experience rain as hard as in San José.
And if you are going to party, Costa Ricans love to party, rain or shine! Consider rain as part of your Costa Rica experience and enjoy it!

You can do almost the same as if you were on summer time, since most of the days it rains only in the afternoons or evenings, the rain is not cold, instead is cool and if you are at the beach is actually refreshing. A good thing about rainy season is that most hotels, flights, etc. are cheaper. But even better, beaches, park and everything else are not crowded; you fill like you own the places

there are lots of things you can do. if you have a car (small or medium suv). offroad thru the muddy, puddle roads and se how dirty can you get that car. at the beach, swim or run like a baby without a diaper and laughing all around. canopy is fun cuz depends where it is, if its foggy you go thru the fog and don't see quite few things around you, is like bungie at night, is great. or just by laying in a hommock or rocking chair may be a bed and listening to the rain drops falling down. that is just when it rains. or after it rains... but the rest is just normal cuz it doesn't rain all day, mostly just in the afternoon

Typically it only rains for a few hours/day during the rainy season. mostly in the afternoons or evenings. The rest of the time it's usually sunny

Yes they are out. An umbrella is all you need. It only rains a short time and then it's nice again. Sport fishing and river rafting are favorites of mine in the rainy season.
