There is so much to see & do in Guatemala!

Lake Atiklan which is a lake at altitude has some lovely villages around it selling local crafts. If you scuba dive you can dive in the lake which is pretty cool.

Nearby are some small villages which offer local markets selling fruit, flowers and handicrafts. A great insight into the culture.

Antigua is a city about 30mins-1hour outside Guatemala City, which is traditional and quaint. Its perfect if you want to live with a family and study spanish at one of the many many schools there.

Volcon Pacaya is a volcano about 1 hour from Antigua where you can walk up and see the lava river which is awesome!

Coban is a bland town to the south of the country, but about 1 hour away is Semac Champey which is an absolutely beautiful almost national park. You can walk to the top of a hill & look down at this mass of forest and a lovely river, then walk back down and cool off in the river.

Livingstone is to the east of the country and is a small typical village. You can catch a river taxi along the beautiful Rio Dulce (sweet river) which is surrounded by this wonderful greenary.

Guatelama City is dirty and has a bad reputation. There is nothing to see of do there. Even the locals dont seem to want to be there.

The country is totally set up for tourists and in most towns you will find someone / a company willing to take you pretty much anywhere. However you can still feel like you're having an independant holiday and not being hearded around like a package holiday because you can organise many of these trips yourself too.

I really really enjoyed my trip to Guatemala. Enjoy!

Oh most definitely. There's a variety things to do. First of all there's the tipical visiting the Mayan Ruins in Peten located in the northern region of Guatemala. Contains great history. Also Lake Amatitlan, and Lago Atitlan. Gorgeous tourist attractions it is a beautiful scenery to be in, with blue water, gorgeous volcanoes that surround the lakes, especially the active one, Volcano of Pacaya, oh of which you can actually hike up. Also the city of Antigua, contains beautiful markets, beautiful curches, and also views of the Volcano of Water of which a long time ago had actually drowned the entire city of water I believe, when it had ruptured. The city contains awesome sceneries and architecture, the houses amongst the streets creates awesome contrasts as each house is of different vibrant colors, as well as the clothing of the people who walk amongst the city. Also Esquipulas is a great place to visit with the most famous Catholic church. You can attend a special mass there, watch processions, go to the markets and stores located around the Cathedral. Now if you're looking for a little more fun check out Dennis Beach. Can stay there in hotel/guest rooms of your choice, go to the bars, to the beach, do different activities like horseback riding, hiking, or riding those long banana boats. Also there are many pools and parks like the IRTRA that consists of a zoo, pools, different playing fields, rides, child amusement park rides (if you have a family). These parks are located in various cities in all of Guatemala also there are two actual amusement parks for everyone one, a water park called Xetulul and the other that is close to Xetulul is the amusement park called Xocomil with great rides. Also the capital consists of great bars and clubs if you like clubbin. The malls are much like the malls in the US. There is a great variety of things you can do. Hope you really enjoy Guatemala!

pretty much all of Guatemala is beautiful. You need 2 months there to really enjoy it and see everything there is to see, but of course it's better to live there.
