I have been to Guatemala several times, I would like to visit again and see some of the places I missed like Amatitlan and the colonial towns.
the image of Guatemala outside is that it is a nice country with a high indian population and nice colorful weaving, unfortunately it is also considered dangerous to travel because of the same reasons as El Salvador and Honduras and Nicaragua.

Of Guatemala, I once heard some say "it's very backward, a US colony to the south that doesn't work, and it's full of thieving scum." I have never been to Guatemala but I would expect it to be quite backward. It is certainly a CIA outpost and, having lived in Latin America for a very long time, the people are quite likely to be more dishonest, on average, than Europeans. |
