We have been living in Belize for almost three years now. The primary language spoken is English. Almost everyone speaks Creole. Also, there are places along the border where Spanish is known by many people. |

Between an island and the mainland there I found the most common languages in order are:
English (official, formerly British Honduras)
Creole
Spanish
Garifuna
Maya, other tribal languages
Aside from small villages in the jungle I found everyone spoke at least a little english, and most were fluent with really cool accents. If you know even a bit of Spanish then Creole is easy to pick up as well! |

I had some aquaintances a long time ago who wanted to teach English abroad in Latin America and decided that Belize was perfect. They started looking for jobs and only when they asked the embassy did they find out they didn't need ESL teachers there because they spoke...English!!
