What should I do in Peru?

I have about 9 days in Peru. We will land in Lima, and after a couple of days there, we will go to Cusco, and visit Machu Picchu. Are there other places I will have time to see, or other places near Cusco or Lima that I should visit in only 9 days?

Don't worry about Cuzco. Any 4day or 5day tour will give you the full experience.

In Lima:

In the Miraflores district:
Take surfing lessons (US $ 20 an hour)
Ride on a two person Paraglider (US $ 30 an hour)
Larco-Mar Mall (movie theaters, Restaurants, discoteques, etc. etc.)

Take the MIRABUS TOUR (a roofless 2 stories bus) there are many tours you can choose like Miraflores-Port of Callao (including a boat trip around the islands) total time 5 hours for only US $ 17. You take off at 10 am in Larco-Mar Tue-Thur-Sat. There are also other tours "Colonial Lima" (Downtown Lima), "Pachacamac ruins" (the only inka ruins found near Lima city, inside the ruins hire a personal guide to allow you to enter the MAMACONA TEMPLE)

Also in the Port of Callao there's a fortress, the Castillo of Real Felipe a tour there cost less than US $ 10 (2 1/2 hours).

Now we also have a CULINARY TOUR, they take you to traditional restaurants and bars and teach you to make a Flounder Ceviche and 2 of our greatests cocktails: Pisco Sour & Algarrobina

Hello i'm from Lima, you should do a culinary tour, there are so many good restaurants here in Lima, know about the food is also know about the country.

As I suffered a horrible kidnapping (half an hour of death threats) with my wife near Cuzco and Chinchero on past august, I warmly advice you to take all the precautions. Take only official transportation (we took one of many taxi between Cuzco and Chinchero at 4pm) !
I have 12 years of latin america (10 years of Brazil) and it was the first very very bad experience.
I“m sorry to tell you that but it“s in order to avoid other people such a nasty experience.
Take care !

Other than the suggestions above, spending a day taking a Sacred Valley full-day bus tour is worth the money and time. I'd say devote most of your time to the Cusco/Sacred Valley/Machu Piccu area (oh and stay overnight in Aguas Calientes the night before you go to MP-much less tiring and you will avoid the crowds! We did and it was the way to go.)
Lima's OK so spend a day or two exploring there, but I was glad to get out to the other stuff and didn't regret it.

Other than Cusco/Machu-Pichhu:

Consider travelling from Lima to Huancayo in the world's second highest railway. It used to be the highest in the world till Tibet railway was opened.

The trains do not run daily. Check out "Ferrocarril Central Andino".
