Sir south America is a large continent made up of many countries if you prefer the beach it is hot if you like the snow covered mt. at 10.000 ft. it is somewhat cool so you be a little clearer with the question.

To moonwalker's point, the extream south of S.A. would be very cold in December while the North would be warm, as it always is since the equator runs through it.

deezee4sheezee
depends on what country your visiting the northern part of south america which includes colombia ecuador venezuela are hot year round avg from 80-100 degrees while the countries in the south have seasons like the usa only that december would be like june and pretty warm. while the women stay hot all year round no matter where you go in south america!!!!!!

Weather in many South American cities is more a matter of elevation(altitude) than that of a seasonal designation. The designations of "wet" and "dry" may also prevail in some countries. Get info from the country's embassy. In Ecuador, for example, that is on the equator,it is hot, humid, and wet during Dec. which locally is considered winter in Guayaquil which is at sea level. In Quito, it is cool and mostly dry due to its 8000ft. plus elevation.

cracio
It is mainly hot and rainy. There is a lot of humidity in the northern part of South America. I am from Ecuador. Welcome to Latin America!

Depends ehat part of South America you are talking about. The northern part of south america is north of the equator, right above the tropic, and no matterwhat part of the year it is, it is warm. Now real south, say Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brasil, it is hot.

Warm, unless you're in the mountains, then it can be cool at night.
