The Kuna live in three politically autonomous comarcas or reservations in Panama that are similar to the indian reserves in the US) . There are also communities of Kuna people in Panama City, Colon, and other cities. The greatest number Kuna live on small islands in the comarca of Kuna Yala or San Blas. The other two Kuna comarcas in Panama are Kuna de Madugandi, this is in the area of Chepo near the Darien, and Kuna de Wargandi, the province of Darien, from the district of Pinogana. A couple of interesting things that will be easily recognizable about this people group: 1) If the women have a gold ring in their nose they are married. If there is no ring they are single. 2) If the women have their arms and legs wrapped with the beautiful bead work that is in their custom, they were born in San Blas Islands. If it is absent, they are still full Kuna but were not born in the region. For more information on Panama see http://www.panamaexpertos.com/

The Kunas and the San Blas Indians live scattered throughout the country . Many have jobs that bring them to the city . But San Blas Island would obviously be a good place to see many San Blas . Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly where to find a concentration of Kunas, although there are places where they are concentrated . I was stationed there, just outside of Colon for 2 years(U.S. Army) . We had many Kunas and San Blas working for the military . They are both extremely calm and very nice people . In a sense, they idolize us Americans, because we are so 'tall' and so much bigger than them . Their average height is about 5 feet, maybe a little less !! You'll also see them on roadsides, selling crafts, and very good ones at that !! Feel free to email me if you have any other questions about Panama .

They live all over the country. Most of them still wear their traditional costumes. The younger Kuna, however, usually prefer Western attire (the American look). The Kuna that still live on the islands have their own society which hasn't changed much since 1492.
