tropical. There is moderate temperature variation year-round and it never gets very cold. The year is divided between a rainy season and a dry season. During the rainy season it rains every day, but usually only for 2-4 hours. In the highlands, it is moderate all year (60-80 highs in San Jose), in the lowlands it is hot all year (75-100 highs). These are rough estimate from my personal experience, but should be about right.

Tropical. Warm in winter, hot in summer with possible hurricanes. Rain possible all year round.
