Well, there's magnificent pyramids rising above the Peten jungle --- the ruins are over 2,000 years old and historians go to study the ancient Mayan culture....what more do you want to know??

Tikal is famous because it was the greatest city in the Mayan World during de Classic Period. In 1979, Tikal was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I was there last year and it’s amazing to be there in the middle of the forest and miles away from great moderns cities. It’s located in Tikal National Park, and it is both cultural and natural World Heritage Site. You should visit Tikal.

Tikal means in Mayan language "Place of Voices". There are pyramids in Tikal, which were tombs for Mayan Royalty

Tikal was the most populous of the ancient Maya cities. It covers an area as big as Manhattan and had a building (temple 4) that is as tall as the towers that hold up the Brooklyn Bridge. The first members of the ruling dynasty ruled before Nebecannzer ruled in Babylon, outlasted the classic Egyptian civilization, and the classic Greek period, and the entire run of the Roman empire. The last kings ruled during the reign of Charlemane. It was abandoned around 850 AD. It lasted that long without a natural source of water!

I love it when people ask questions like these because I love my Guatemala. Tikal is a historical place located in Northern Guatemala. It's history is that, a long time ago, that's where the Mayans lived. They didn't have any constructors or modern technology like we do today so they built their own building which we call today Ruins. These ruins are where they lived. And the most amazing part of it all is that, they, not having modern technology, built these amazing ruins, that are STILL standing. The Mayans were very smart and also made a calendar that goes to 2012. Pretty amazing huh?
I suggest you going to Tikal... it's just absoloutly amazing and tropical, you can see the ruins and occasionally in the trees there will be some monkeys!! Very beautiful place!
