Remember that you are a visitor. You will find things may be "backward" to your way of thinking. Every time you think this, you should step back and remember that people think you are backward too.
I have been travelling for 13 years, all over the world. Nothing makes me think : "ignorant tourist" more than hearing someone say something like " can you believe the way they.....?" or even worse "well, at HOME we do it this way...."
Share your differences, just make sure you do it with respect and diplomacy.
Enjoy Latin America... I've just spent 3 years in Colombia and I love it! |

bring a dictionary and use it.!!! listen to their music, try all their food, learn the language and speak even if you know very little..(it deserves more respect than not trying at all), dont bring too much jewelry, pack light but different styles of clothes,..absorb the countrys culture and open your mind and spirit to a new side of you... |

Maybe some bottled water...you may not want to drink much of their water. Sometimes if you travel far away and drink the water you can get sick or feel sick. |

Make a photocopy of the information page of your passport and keep it separate from your passport. If your passport is lost or stolen, having that information will make it easier to get a replacement quickly. |

research the area you are going to
find affordable restaurants so you don't have to spend a fortune on eating out before you go
research the places you want to see and make a list so you get the most out of your trip
and save a little extra money up just in case you need it
Have a great trip |

My best tip is to pack light. Just make sure you have enough underwear. That's all you need. And take travelers checks, not cash |

#1 Most Important tip-DON'T LOOSE YOUR PASSPORT.
I would check on the internet and see what the weather is like in Aug, figure out how long you'll be there, what you'll be doing while you're there. Pack light-don't over pack stuff you won't need. Figure out what shirts, pants, skirts and shoes are mix and match outfits. A big T-shirt can be a sleep shirt as well as a bathing suit cover up. Lay out everything you think you'll need as far as clothes-then put half of it back in your closet! Make sure all shampoos and such are in ZIP LOCK bags-bring extra for dirty clothes. Most important, don't fold your clothes, roll them. They get less wrinkled and you have more room. Get a medium size tote that has a handle and wheels for easier handling in airports. That and a big purse is all you need to take. If it don't fit in those two bags-you don't need to take it! Good luck and have fun! |

pack light, and get a Citibank account, they have ATM's everywhere that don't charge you, and the money comes out in that country's currency. This gives you the best exchange for your money, and you only have to carry around what you need. I haven't been to Costa Rica, but I've been all over Europe, and I was surprised to find like 8 ATM's in Instanbul alone! |
