costa rica
a single person CANT live for a month here for USD600, unless they live in a wooden shack in the middle of nowhere and eat rice and beans and bananas every day.

im from UK lived here 4 years, beautiful country, you get great value now with the US$ so weak, and yes they do take US$ everywhere, tho for bars/ taxis etc get some clones or youll get ripped off.
shopping isnt great!

Costa Rica is beautiful anytime of year. June is the "rainy" season. This means it will rain for an hour or two at approx. the same time every day. Yoy might need a collapsible umbrella. US $ work most anywhere, it might be a problem in very remote areas. Paul is wrong about the exchange rate. It is currently $1 = 517 colonies. You can go to any bank and change monies. Things are cheap here. A beer in an average bar costs 650 colonies about $1.25. In the very touristy areas prices are higher. Shopping : the coffee here is excellent. Also lots of handmade leather products ( handbags, luggage ect), and local art works. The food is bland so locals use a lot of tabasco or lime for flavor.

I loved Costa Rica and can hardly wait to go back. I went on a tour which took us from the Carribbean to the Pacific then up to the northern border & all the places in between. It was a busy 2 weeks but we saw most of the country & experienced it's great people, beautiful landscapes and wonderful nature at it's best.

If you like to golf, it has great golf courses (so I've heard). There is a great jewellery shop in San Jose that sells the most beautiful gold and emerald jewellery. I bought an emerald ring that I had appraised when I got home - it's worth 3 times what I paid !! The hand painted feathers are gorgeous but look around because some are alot nicer than others. And their coffee - I'm hooked. I order it by the case online. Try and tour Cafe Britt just outside of San Jose - it was a fun tour & their coffee liquor was very very yummy too !!

June is beautiful in Costa Rica! If you are going to stay on the "Central Plain" where San Jose is located approximately 3,800 feet above sea level expect the days to be between 60 in the early morning and as high as 84 during the day on an average. (Here it usually does not get any colder than 59 degrees or higher than 86 degrees all year round!) - a Virtual Paradise!

Other places in CR can be much hotter and much more humid especially if you are close to the coasts!

American Dollars are used just as frequently as their own money which is the Colone that has a current rate of exchange of about 450.16 per American Dollar. And things are about one third cheaper there in CR then the States.

Actually a single person can live like a King for about $600.00 a month there!

Shopping is not any different than what it is in the United States because they do actually have many large shopping malls scattered thoughout the country, and they have many Tourist Shops that have things from all over the world - not to mention their own "Craftsman Market" downtown San Jose!

Good Luck!

VIVA LA PURA VIDA!

costa rica is amazing. some places will take us dollars, but most want to get colons. it offers surfing communities, rasta towns, mountains, ocean, waterfalls, wild life, rain-forests, volcanos, and lots more depending on what area you go to
