Hey man, just talk to me. The best way is from Panama City to Bocas del Toro taking an airplane.
Be sure to take one airline called Aeroperlas, never (as me) make the mistake to take another one called Air Panama is a headache.
If you never been in Bocas you don't know what is waiting for you:the most beautiful beaches in central America including Costa Rica, girls, disco, awesome parties, good music, excelent dishes, seafood, kindness from the people and the most important thing english speakers.
Good luck, if you need a guide call me here in Panama 6503-6928 |

You can fly to Bocas del Toro from both cities. In San José you can use Nature Air, and in Panama you can use Aeroperlas or Air Panama.
I live in Panama and have used both airlines and they're OK. I haven't had any bad experiences with them.
I recommend flying, because you would have to drive to Almirante, and then take the ferry to Isla Colon (Columbus Island), where the town of Bocas del Toro is. If you get there after the ferry left, then you'll have to wait, and I'm not sure as to the ferry's schedule. So if you can't take chances then fly. If you can wait, then save yourself some bucks and take the bus. |

probably through panama cuz that way you will see the other parts of panama as well. A plane trip from Panama City is only like 1/2 hour and will cost around 30-50 dollars. Bocas del Toro is absolutely beautiful! you will definietly have the time of your life there! I want to spend my bday there!!!! |

driving to bocas is around 7 or 8 hours. if you drive at night its kinda scary because about the last 2 hours of the trip is all foggy and if you are driving at night there are no lights and its mountain trail. when you get to almirante you have to take a boat to cross which cost like 2 or 3 dollars. there is a ferry to cross over in car, which only departs a couple times a week. you need to know the schedule and its very early like 7 am.
ive done the trip a couple of times. its long but you do save money cause the airplane costs about $170 both ways from panama city, but the airplane is nice and it takes 1 hour so its more convenient.
you can take a bus there its about probably 10-12 hours. it probably costs 20 - 35 for a coaster with air. just take some niquil and pass out.
from panama to costa rica takes driving about 12 - 14 hours to san jose. the border with costa rica is aweful. they want to rip you off. be careful if you go make a copy of your passport dont give them the original. and always carry 5 bucks if you have to "tip" the cops. especially if you look really gringo!
airplane to san jose by it on aeroperlas or air panama it can be cheaper than taca.
good luck! |

You can fly to san jose, costa rica and then take a regional flight to bocas del toro; or you can fly to panama city and then take a regional flight to bocas. The same company operates regional flights in central america, and they are inexpensive. Do not drive or go by bus as the trip is too long and the roads aren't very good. |

We lived in Bocas Del Toro for 2 years. Take the flight from Toucuman airport to bocas there are several a day. the bus is a 10 hour trip very slow. |

You can fly there from either city. Or take buses. I think it is an easier and quicker bus trip from San Jose. If you are not interested in seeing any place along the way, then just go with the best deal you can get on air fares.
If you want to travel around a bit, look for an open jaw flight that will take you into one country and out of the other. |
