I live here and I like it all year long. April is NOT a good time if you don't like the tourist masses. Semana Santa here get's pretty crowded. Here's my mail in case you want to know something specific about Guatemala.

I think Semana Santa is the perfect time to be in Guatemala! Yes, its crowded- but its worth it. You'll have to make reservations early, very early to get a good hotel. But Antigua during Semana Santa is something everyone should see.

anytime of the year is a great time to visit south america...but now some places are cheaper than others if you have dollars or euros! take advantage! come on down!

I think the whole year is cool. I would like to go on carnival cuz than you can see a typical thing, at least in Brazil i know that they celebrate. But you would have to wait until next year. I would go to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil

You could try going to Peru. You can visit the Incan Ruins (Machu Pichu) or they just found the world's 3rd BIGGEST waterfall. The people in that country are really nice. Just dont stay to long in Lima (nothing that interesting). Try going to Cuzco, chiclayo(where i was born), or trujillo(a big cist that has alogt of history. The climate is very diverse there so you can get a glimpse of almost anything
well hope that helps good luck
