Late December, early January. Better still, just after early january, after the holiday nuttiness is over. The rainy season is just recently over so thing sre still nicely green and fresh looking- not true by mid February. MOst of the rain damage to the roads is repaired. Students are out of school in January so the beaches have more good looking bodies than during work time vacations (ticos are quickly becoming an obese society- an odd sign of success). Tourist season high prices are dropped a bit. The hotels, beaches, roads are not over loaded.
To give an idea of what you would consider a good party spot you have to give an idea of how much you plan to spend. Costa Rica is a very expensive country now and a 'luxury' vacation in Costa Rica will cost you about the same as Miami FLorida but you will not get quite as much of the service and amenities.
Jaco Beach is a pretty good party town and prostitution is legal in all of Costa Rica.but you need to be sure the hookers (male and female) you hit on are over 18. Newpaper stories about drug busts there almost read as advertising plus Jaco has a good range of prices in hotels from down right shabby to 5star hotel chains.
Getting out of any beach towns or larger cities will give you places to relax and unwind but you should probably stay on the western side of the country. Bed and breakfast joints, often horrifyingly overpriced, are all over. BUt they often work out fine for visitors.
Look at the online english language paper amcostarica.com
for possible useful locations. |

The best time to travel to Costa Rica is late November, early December (end of the rainy season) to late April early May (start of the rainy season). Given those parameters, you should travel in January or February. As for partying, it takes place in San Jose, mostly. You can find some places near the beach, but they cater to tourists and are very costly. If money is not object, then an all inclusive resort is definitely the place to go.
If you do decide on an all inclusive resort, then go the last two weeks in December or during Easter week. That's when Costa Ricans take their vacation time, and the resorts will be filled to the brim with people and the joint is guaranteed to be jumping.
If you want to unwind, then find yourself a small hotel on the Osas Peninsula. You will be alone, no stresses and no worries. I hope that helps. If you want any other information about Costa Rica, then the TicosLand Costa Rica Directory is the place to go. |

The rainy season is usually April to November. December through Feb. are the dryest. Tourest season starts the third week in December. Go early if you want it less crowded. Jaco on the Pacific is more of a party town. Nearby Manuel Antonio is supposed to be the prettest beach in the world. |

In my opinion its always a good time but to make it easy on you, just know that when its summer in US its winter in CR and when its winter in US its summer in CR. And winter here in CR shouldnt even be called winter because its not even close to cold, just rainy. |
