There is a sweet little B&B in Panama City, very private and quiet, called La Estancia. I always stay there when I travel from my home in Boquete to Panama City. Very, VERY inexpensive. Clean. Owners speak perfect English and are very customer-service oriented. |

There is a new resort called Playa Bonita, and it's run by Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts. It is very private and secluded with a private beach.
You might also want to try the Decameron Beach Resort. The golf course is interesting and the hotel is cool as well. It's not a 5 star hotel though, in fact it's an "all included" package, so virtually there isn't a lot of service available. Most of it is "do it yourself", but there's a good ambiance, and there are a lot of things to do while you're there.
As for Panama City the best hotels are:
- Miramar Intercontinental (Business Ambiance)
- Radisson Decapolis (Laid back with a great lounge and a big casino next door)
- Marriott Panama (as most Marriotts but with a big casino in the hotel, and in the middle of the banking district)
- Caesar Park Hotel (Nice 5 star old school hotel with a lot of amenities)
- Sheraton World Trade Center (Business Ambiance)
- Veneto Hotel (new kid on the block with the biggest casino floor in Panama)
- Hotel El Panama (Old School - nice casino)
- Hotel Continental (Old School - nice casino)
- Bristol Hotel (Small - Boutique - Expensive)
- Hotel Deville (Small - Boutique - Expensive)
Most of those hotels start at $120.00 USD a night. Expect the boutique hotels to start at $180.00 USD a night.
Another great resort is on Piñas Bay in Darien. It's called Tropic Star Lodge, and it's dedicated to big game fishing. It's a VIP destination. If you go there you'll see the VIP's and Hollywood stars that have been guests in the past.
On Boquete there are only 3 hotels I can recommend. The best is Los Establos, but it's usually full. The next best is the Panamonte Hotel, and last but not least is Valle Escondido.
On Bocas del Toro visit Isla Colón or Bocas del Toro Island. There's an all suites hotel there, an all white building. That would be the best place to stay there. However there are other places to see in Bocas, so there is a lot to choose from. |

Check the U.S. Embassy for the safest regions to stay. I spent 2 years in Panama. And I do have suggestions for sites to see. Try to visit Ft. San Lorenzo. It's an old (1600's or 1700's) Spanish fort located on the banks of the Chagres River and the entrance to the Carribean Sea. Very interesting and not too deep into the jungle. Panama City is going to be more modern than any where else in the country. Colon has some great history too, but again, check with the Embassy for safety reasons. They have rebounded since the Noriega years, but not every street is safe for a tourist. Go fishing on Gatun Lake if you can. I've never in my life had a better time fishing, than the times I spent there. Most importantly, make sure you go deep enough into the jungle, to experience the wild life !!! It's incredible !!!!! Going to casinos or night clubs is ok, but you can do that here in the USA. Also, try to go on a trip to the heart of the country. The ethnicity of the people out there is far different than anywhere else in the country. Really cool.
Go ahead and email me with any other questions. |
