Where is the best place to stay in Costa Rica in October? |
Planning on honeymooning in Costa Rica. Would probably get there October 15 and stay for at least a week. I know it is towards the end of their rainy season, but I wanted to know the dryest part of the country at that time, which coast is best to stay on and which hotels are nicest? |

It would probably be the Northern Pacific Coast, althought there isn't really a rainy season on the Caribbean coast (its rainy pretty much year round but nice). |

I would go to San Carlos. The rain forest is so mysterious, and rain just makes it better. Also, October is normally low season, so if you book a medium-sized hotel like "El Tucano" or "Tilajari" you'll have the hotel all to yourself. I would personally recommend Tilajari because its closer to the Arenal Volcano and the thermal waters of Tabacon, but if you can't sleep with volcano noises at night El Tucano is still a pretty good option. El Tucano may result more expensive though because they have a mini-golf course and a small private conservation area (they also have more bugs and less chance of scorching than Tilajari). Don't be afraid of getting wet, is all part of the experience, after all it is the RAIN forest. |

Tamarindo is pretty dry at that time of year.
High end places I have stayed that were sweet.
Captain Suizio--Great pool, suites by the beach--about 190 a night---awesome restaraunt.
Cala Luna
Private suites, your own private pool--great food--Spendy almost 250 a night---but very sweet, and private, a short walk from the beach. |

I've been to Costa Rica twice, once in September, once in November. Both times I went to Quepos. Even though it was rainy season, I got PLENTY of fun and sun. It essentially rains every day for a couple of hours, but that can be used as naptime. Then it clears up around 5 or 6. Things are much greener then, the animals are more active, and there are fewer tourists around, so things aren't so crowded. As far as specific locations, Quepos has so many resorts, but I have always rented my own house there. Also, you should go to Tabacon resort near the Arenal Volcano for some SERIOUS hot spring action.
Just do a search for Quepos, CR, and you'll find tons of resorts. Please feel free to contact me with more questions. Congratulations on your wedding. |

October is the rainiest month in all of Costa Rica. Tamarindo is mostly closed in Ocotober, that's when most residents take their vacation.
The only exception is the South Caribbean (Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, and Manzanillo) October is a dry month there. It is a great area too. |
