In South America strictly, I've been to Peru only. Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca. Also, I have also been to Costa Rica, which is NOT South America, but just in case perhaps you made the fairly common mistake of assuming that Central America is South America, then I could also add that.
I would rate Costa Rica a 10/10 in terms of experience, and Peru an 8/10. Peru gets a lower score because... Well, it felt like I had to travel to Machu Picchu and Cusco, but that's where everyone goes, too. It felt more like a scripted adventure... Whereas in Costa Rica, public transport is a cheap and easy way to get by, and you can pretty much travel anywhere in the country that you want, and every part has natural beauty. Costa Rica is just all beautiful, and being there, especially if you travel by public bus and talk to the locals, is just an experience that, in my opinion, is sort of "above" traveling. It's more than traveling, it's like an experience that you go through, rather than just visiting a country and going to all the popular destinations.
To be fair, I was in Costa Rica for 6 weeks, in Peru for just two... And Costa Rica is a smaller country, and thus easier to get to anywhere one wants to get to! |

Travel to South America & u wil find the u rself in natural splendor. The fourth largest among the continents of the world, South America occupies abt 12% of the world’s land area. Bcoz of its tropical climate, one should pack a cap or hat when traveling to South America. A sturdy pair of shoes is also needed as there wil be a lot of nature-tripping & hiking taht wil be involved.
