Which Colombian city is more dangerous...Bogota or Medellin?

Show all answers

Mrs. Obama rules!
Oh please stop believing that Colombia is a dangerous country full of drug lords and Farc militars kidnapping people everywhere! Comparing these two cities is like asking which is more dangerous, New York or Miami? Bogota is a nice and secure place as well as Medellin. Take the usual precautions and travel without any apprehension and enjoy your trip. If you ask me which city do I like best I would say Medellin but that's my personal opinion.

ColombianitoNY- NO MAS GUERRA!
I would say Medellin....Bogota is now the most secured city in Colombia. good luck

Colombia is passion

Things in have certainly got a great deal safer in Colombia; and a bit of common sense will only make your stay/visit even safer.

Medellin is more dangerous, but don't worry, nor Bogotá neither Medellín are the half part of dangerous than any big city in the United States. The mass media only talks bullshit about my country.

none of them

Well, here's the latest word according to the U.S. State Department:

Violence has continued to decrease markedly in most urban areas, including Bogotá, Medellin, Barranquilla, and Cartagena. The level of violence in Cali, Buenaventura, and the surrounding areas remains high, largely as a result of the illicit drug trade. Many rural areas of Colombia remain extremely dangerous due to the presence of narcoterrorists and Colombian government operations against them.

MEDELLIN.

They're about the same. I prefer walking about in the nicer sections of Medellin as they feel a bit more secure than the nicer areas of Bogota, simply because of the fact that Bogota is the capital and much more cosmopolitan and crowded with a lot of movement in the center. Also, the tropical feel of Medellin and green trees makes it feel safer even if it isn't.
