You will find that Costa Rica is a very international country so you will meet english speaking people almost at any bar.
If you will be staying in San José downtown go to NEWS CAFE. Very international, good food, good service, prices are ok.
El Cuartel de la Boca del Monte is also a good place, especially on Mondays. Check that one out as well.
The area of EscazĂș is very popular, lots of bars and restaurants. Many embassies are there, so also very international "flair". Go bar-hopping there... great nightlife.
If you will be on the other side of San José, let's say San Pedro, check out Jazz Cafe, life music almost every day (not only jazz) and also very visited by tourists and foreigners from all-around.
Let me know what kind of place you like best (hip, elegant, expensive, very cheap... etc). and I will give you the best hint! |

Many southern pacific towns are visited by gringos. Dominical, Uvita, Ojochal, etc. have many tourists as well as expatriots living there. You'll find tons of english speaking folks mixing with locals. VERY FRIENDLY and fun. |

Like any other place. For night life I follow the locals. The bars were great there but I can't remember or maybe I just didn't care what they were called. Costa Rica is fabulous and the locals are great people. |
