The new president of El Salvador Is Mauricio Funes a former TV journalist.
He has celebrated victory monday after triumphing in El Salvador's presidential elections and completing a historic journey to power for his party FMLN (Frente Farabundo Martà para la Liberación Nacional). Funes identifies himself with moderates such as President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil as opposed to Venezuela's firebrand President Hugo Chavez.
He is the first FMLN presidential candidate who has never served as an armed combatant.

Mauricio Funes, the candidate for the left wing party FMLN won with 51% of the votes. Rodrigo Avila got 49% of the votes. In my opinion, it should have been a tie hahaha. Aw i will have to flee the country.
