Costa Rica had a relatively small indigenous population when the Europeans first arrived, compared to most of Latin America. Because there were no great easy prizes, like gold and silver already mined, available just to pick up Costa Rica avoided many of the problems of conquest. The lack of easily seen resources prevented the usual trade in slavery, either by import or enslaving on the spot ( black or indian). Eventually some gold mines opened and eventually the potential for great wealth through agriculture (coffee, bananas especially) was seen but by then outright slavery was illegal. (The first gold mine did open just before Great Britain prohibited international slave trade.)
THe country is mostly populated by Europeans and their descendants, which is what you probably mean when you say white.
In recent years there has been an increase in other central american immigrants, and many of them show more indian traits but still europeans outnumber the indigenous peoples.

Because Spaniards took over CR a long time ago. And a lot of the indians were sold out of the country to be slaves in parts of South America also a lot were killed. We still have parts of the country where there are indian tribes left but very little.

back... when christopher columbus arrived at puerto limon back in the 1500's
the native people when to the coast to welcome them
they saw gold on the indians so they began killing them (that's why its called costa rica)
the small population of native people they ran off to the mountains where some still remain there, which is the talamanca area
then spain immigrants came to costa rica bit by bit
