He is a killer, thief and the worst dictator in Chile´s history.
He killed with help from the USA, Salvador Allende.
Chile is not the most successful Country in Latin America, last year Venezuela won 12 points in his economy ( like China) and Chile only 5.
But if you think Chile is the best economy in Latin America is because President LAGOS reduces poverty from 50% to 20% in only 6 years....

About ten years ago, on my day off while working in Santiago, just wandering around, I sat down to chat with two Chilenos, strangers to me, in one of those open cafes in the middle of a pedestrian-only street. They were good friends, those two, older men like me. They had been friends from childhood.
The conversation, already in progress when I interrupted, was about Pinochet. They seemed pleased that a gringo was curious. I asked a question from time to time, but mostly listened, while we all sipped beer - the sun warm, the day pleasant.
One friend was vehemently pro-Pinochet, the other adamantly against. If those two are still alive, I'm sure they are still sipping beer over their argument sin fin (without end).
Does the end justify the means? Napoleon said, "You can't make an omlet without breaking eggs."
Sin fin,

I understand what you mean.... same thing with Hitler.... he killed thousands but Germany would not be an advanced country as it is now if it wasn't for him.
He built the first highways, he was interested in advanced medicine, he gave food and work to the people, transportation and housing. It was not until the last years of the Second World War that the situation was difficult. Actually during the war people could still live "good". After the war the real problems started.
So same as the comment before me: does all this justify what he did?
No, of course not.
Just remember that in Germany very few people really knew what was going on. The normal population never imagined the killings at the camps, they just wondered about the smoke and smell, but nobody knew.
In the case of Pinochet the killing was on the open, it was no secret what was going on.
And yes, he might have done some good... but all these people who accquire too much power seem to lose their minds in the end! |
