Oddly, Belize will seem more foreign to northamericans than Costa Rica. FOr 2 decades now C.R. has been taking on the gringo model of life and business. Costa Rica does use Spanish but aside from that most of Costa Rica is like an underfunded small midwestern town. But with great scenery.

Both countries are tropically beautiful. Belize had less tourist pressure and much better snorkeling. Off the coast both countries are similar. Belize is less tourist driven and far far cheaper. It is a bit less convenient that C.R. but there are less gringos there too. a big plus if your want to feel you've gone abroad for a vacation.

For a vacation, either one. I have lived in both and chose CR to buy property because CR is actually a country. Belize is a tropical area run by a gang of good ol boys with strange ideas.

It all depends on what you want.

Costa Rica has better hotels and places, since Belize is a poor country atm.
Costa Rica also has better beaches, if thats what you are looking for, both in the Carribean and Pacific Coasts. The places are safe, the climate is fine and you can see lots of americans around too. Its a gorgeous place for snorkeling, especially in the Carribean, with beautiful coral reefs and colorful fish. There are also very nice hotels in the coats. Belize has also a Carribean coast, but its not as nice as Costa Rica.

But if you are looking for nature, both countries are full of them. Costa Rica has more variety of flora and fauna, its bigger and has nature everywhere... it has all the types of forrests in America. Belize has also beautiful nature but only in some parts, you need to be careful of the place you choose.

I am from Costa Rica and I think that it's a good place to go for vacations. If you want to see nature, I recomend you go to the beaches. They're beautiful! You can go also to a mountain hotel. this is a good place, because, it has not only nature, you can go to other beautiful places!

if you want to cill costa rica is better but there are lots of hikes and family friendly things to do bit beleize is better for hikes and rainforest views i loved them both so do your research but in terms of better i pick costa rica in the winter and beleize in the spring

Costa Rica speaks Spanish, Belize speaks English. I have heard, however, that the English sailors in Belize should be avoided ( at least the drunk ones.) Belize has a beautiful coast on the Caribbean though! On the other hand, Costa Rica has two coasts!

I've been to both and you have people from Costa Rica answer you here.Sorry but CR doesn't even come close to Belize
