Would it be better to spend an extra day in Cusco or spend a day in Lima during a trip to Peru? |
Already plan several days in Cusco. This would be a "free day." The day in Lima would be a chance to explore the city, which isn't in the current itinerary. |

To be totally honest neither Cuzco nor Lima are my favorite cities in Peru. Lima is a really large, scary city in my opinion and isn't that fun to walk around. There are some interesting sights there, so if you're interested in a specific monument or museum in the city then definitely spend your extra day there, but otherwise I'd suggest avoiding it. Cuzco has so much incredible history, but has really been taken over by tourist. I didn't like the fact that I was constantly harassed by people trying to get me to go into their restaurant or buy their trinkets. I just didn't think the town had a very good feel. So, my suggestion to you is to spend your extra day in Cuzco and take a bus to Ollataytambo (Sp?) or another great town in the Sacred Valley. You could even to a Sacred Valley tour that day because it is really magnificent country side and you'd be able to see a lot of other ruins besides Machu Picchu that are just about as breathtaking. Hope this helps! |

I think you can spend one more day in Lima, is a beautiful place with lots of things to do... you can see museums, the center of the town (very nice), shopping centers, monuments, ruins.
Theres a bus that gives you a city tour called the Mirabus: http://www.mirabusperu.com
You can go to Miraflores, Barranco ( which are the most beautiful districts in Lima).. |

Cuzco. Lima is congested, chaotic, hot and humid. Cuzco is cool and rustic, that's what I think. |
