I just got back from a vacation in Ecuador, and highly recommend it. Friendly, inexpensive, clean and safe. If you are looking for luxury resorts, and 5 star resorts, you might try somewhere else. But if you are looking for outdoors and nature plus some sun and beach, Ecuador is the place to go.

If you want a tour package, you can save a lot of money by going directly with an Ecuadoran company, but it can be pretty risky if you don't do your homework. I highly recommend Ecuador Adventure (www.ecuadoradventure.ec). They set up a rafting trip for us that we will remember forever. They also do Galapagos Islands trips.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just a happy customer. Ask for Alfredo.

Definitly I would! Galapagos Islands and Banos are just two of my favorite places in Ecuador. I was there in 1998, and I totally loved it, saw many new things, even things I didn't think they existed.

I also visited Riobamba, Portoviejo, Otavalo, Ambato, Volcanoes Pichincha & Cotopaxi, Quito, Guayaquil, Esmeraldas, and Manabi. Pretty much everything in Ecuador was awesome! People are friendly, at least the ones I met there. Hotels are nice and cheap. The beaches are great, specially in Esmeralda. It's a great view from the mountains too.

Next stop: Peru

We are going to Ecuador in December/January- visiting the Galapagos, cloud forest, Quito, Cuenca, Riobamba, Banos- can't wait.
