10 year anniversary trip to Mexico, I need romantic recommendations...?

Wife and I would like to go somewhere in Mexico for our 10 year next spring. I think we were planning on something in the April/May timeframe. We are on somewhat of a tight budget, Is $2500 -$3000 sufficient assuming we live in an area with reasonably priced flights to Mexico?

Looking primarily for recommendations on what areas in Mexico we should be targeting and then possibly what beach and/or accommodations. We would prefer that it be romantic and intimate and not be crawling with kids. Would also like someplace that is not too conservative with dress code if you catch my drift.

Bonus points for anyone who can relate personal experiences in this matter and/or provide links that I can research.

Joyce: Thanks for the compliment! Caribbean is too pricey to get to from where we live so at least for the moment I am focusing on Mexico.

If your looking for a beach, shoot for Cabo san Lucas, or Acapulca... but if you want to go somewhere truly romantic, visit Guanajuato City. Its a small town, full of tunnels, and 16 th century architecture. Seriously, I wouldnt doubt if the Conquistadors came back and said it looks just like they left it. This city is sooo romantic. Its legends alone give you such a deep connection with the culture. Some are romantic, some are frightnening. I guarentee you'll love it

May is the hottest month in Mexico, better go for April, I'd say. I really like the area of beaches in the state of Oaxaca, it is a little farther for the flying, but the beaches are just lovely, not as crowded and there are definitely areas where clothing is optional, it's more European in that respect. Puerto Escondido has a nice airport. I was there for a month two years ago, just came in, got a funky hotel for one night, walked along the beach checking out resorts and hotels, there are quite a mix of them, choose one that I liked, bargained for a month's stay and had a really great time.

First of all, I want to say that your wife is very lucky! It's not everyday that men ask how to be more romantic for their wife!

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but maybe look into some of the little islands in the Caribbean..ie, St. Barts, St. Kitts, St. Thomas, etc because I think there are some "natural as can be" sunning if that is what you are referring to. There are lots of all-inclusive resorts that cater only to adults.

I had a friend that loved the Hedonism resorts and I believe they are adults only although I'm not sure about the pricing. Any travel agent should be able to help with that.

Good Luck and I wish I could go too!!

Take Care,

Joyce

Try Cabo San Lucas....Cancun and Acapulco draw too many 20 somethings....Not romantic enough for your needs.

Go to Cancun and stay on the "El Presidente Intercontinental" hotel. It's really pretty and it has the best beach of all Cancun. If u go to Mexico City, make sure u go to "El Lago de Xochimilco". (Xochimilco's lake). U can rent a little "boat", to call it that way, and they take u around the lake. It's really fun and pretty romantic.

Have fun!!
