A recommended coastal place to visit in mexico?

Everyone has a favorite place and will recommend where they went and had fun, but it really depends what you are looking for, and if you are going with family. Places I recommend are Cancun(most expensive, and a hit with the young crowd to party, caters to tourists, very americanized unless you go out on the scenic tours), Acapulco(the hot spot in the 60's through the 80's, but very dirty and the party scene primary locals, especially from Mexico city. Puerto Vallarta(nice, not too expensive, caters to tourists, still has the mexico feel, but also a party town), Ixtapa & Zihuatanejo(this 2 for 1 is nice since you can stay in the new hip area in Ixtapa where the resorts and new hotels, but can take a bus for about a quarter to Zihuatanejo to get the feel for old mexico where things move slowly and quietly, and very authentic food). There are many more, so I recommend to look at the type of outdoor activities, if it's for partying or relaxing, traveling with family or friends, to make your decision. Good luck.

Riviera Maya. Awesome. I lived in Akumal for 6 months.

There are a lot of beautiful spots ... My top choices :

Cancun is nearby Cozumel ... it's very popular among tourists ... white sands, Caribbean blue sea, a paradise, although it's not at it's best because of the hurricanes that passed last year.

In the pacific coast, Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta have great beaches and a very cool nightlife.

Lots of lovely places in the Gulf of California, Baja California Mexico. More Cultural Heritage Sites than any other country: eco-parks, rock paintings, fabulous desert, beaches and fishing spots. Cancun and Cozumel were badly hit by hurricanes and tropical storms this year, and haven't fully recovered. Its Spring here in Baja, weather beautiful.
