It really depends on what type of vacation you want. All the answers here are for beaches. And while Mexico has some very beautiful beaches and beach resorts, there's a lot more to Mexico than that!
You might look into visiting some of the colonial cities in the interior--Morelia, Zacatecas, Patzcuaro, Guanajuato are all lovely and full of interesting things to do, history, culture, etc.
My favorite, San Miguel de Allende, is at its best in winter. That's the high season and there is so much going on the local English-language newspaper has to expand to about 100 pages just to list it all.
If you just want to cook on a beach and drink margaritas, Cancun or Barra de Navidad are good choices. If you want to experience something of the country, go inland. |

Cancun has the white beaches, blue water, and party atmosphere. Puerto Vallarta seems run down, rocky beaches, dark, cold ocean. Those are the only two places I've been. I'd go back to Cancun in a heartbeat. |

Yeah Cancun is the best! |

I had fun in Cancun and San Jose Del Cabo. I guess it really depends on what it is you are looking for. |

When I was younger I went to a Club Med in Cancun, and that was fun. We took a tour of the Mayan ruins.
We also got sick to our stomachs, even though we didn't drink the water. You have to avoid anything washed in their water that you might eat, and avoid ice cubes and even brushing your teeth with anything but bottled water! |

Sorry but Bigclair is stupid. Mexico is very beautiful and has beautiful beaches. Just like ignorant people that haven't stepped outside their trailer park to comment. |

Ixtapa - Pacific Ocean is the best |

If you like to swim and play in the ocean then stay away from the pacific side of mexico. The eastern side has clear blue water and is a lot warmer. Cancun-cozumel-playa del carmen and anyplace south of there is where you would want to go...just google search and find the spot that has to offer what you like and go....have fun |

Stay away from any part of Mexico City--I got robbed there, and it is polluted beyond belief!Cancun is lovely.
(Ignore Marty,my thumbs-down stalker--he has absolutely nothing better to do than frantically search for my answers and then give them thumbs-down.Poor,pathetic soul that he is...) |

Go to the Dominican or Caymans. Better yet, how about Hawaii? Try to avoid third world countries where you can't even safely drink the water or leave your resort. Mexico really is disgusting and dangerous. |
