Have all your Mexican assets documented for your US VISA .... and you will need quite a few. The US wants to believe you have plenty of reasons to return to Mexico.

Could be up to 6 months if you qualify

**Mishelly**
I think its 6 months and you have to get your VISA..

call your local pollero/coyote.....tomorrow!

just kidding. call the American Embassy in DF.

Below is their website pertaining to visas. Yes, you need to show them that you will return. Here's a few tips from friends of mine. During the interview.....

Don't tell them that you have friends in the US (it gives you a place to stay if you dont want to return)

Tell them you want to go to the US for an intensive English class, or that you want to go to Disney World.

If you have no money, job, house....they'll say no. The "tramite" is about 1000 pesos. If they say no, you don't get your money back.

Have your mom and dad apply first (assuming that they have a house and one has a job). If they have a visa, you have a better chance. (A nice family vacation)

Buen Viaje!

you need to make an apointment with the US embassy nearest you. go to www.us.gov to find this information...they are in guadalajara, DF, monterrey, there is one in sonora, etc.. the waiting list can be long. IF you get approved for a visa (many do not) then you wait the processing time, and once you get it, get together some records (bank statements, note from your employer, utility bills, etc...) and hope for the best! they can turn you away for any reason they feel like it...it's really a pretty crappy system, but hopefully you won't have a bad experience. good luck.

Immediatly, provided you have an American Visa, which has to be obtained going through a whole different process at the U.S. Consulates or Embassies in Mexico. This can take anywhere from 1 month to 5 months, depending on how far in time you get your appointment (Yes!, you have to make an appointment to get the Visa).

If you live in a border region like Baja California, you can enter the US and go 50 miles from the border with just an identity card. People from these regions don't need Visas and didn't used to need a passport (that may change soon)
