Yes, you could fly to one of the more touristy cities...as flights to these cities are cheaper...but be sure it is one CLOSE to Zacatecas. Or , you can take a bus from the Mexican border...Mexican buses are safe, luxourious, and cheap. BUT...Greyhound in the U.S. is HORRID...so you would need to fly or get a ride to the border. |

Zacatecas is 4 to 5 hours from Monterrey or Guadalajara. Just buy tickets to any of those two cities, and you will save some$$$....
The problema is that only one major Mexican airline flyies to Zacatecas (very expensive one called Aeromexico). |

Interjet
VivaAerobus
For example around 120 USD from Monterrey to Leon (which is close to Zacatecas) and then take a bus there, try the SENDA ones (http://www.gruposenda.com/turimex/nuestra.htm) cheap and luxurious |

Dont travel to San luis, you will be paying preety peny, instead fly to Leon, from either place is about 2 to 3 hours drive to Zacatecas on toll expressways, the free road from San luis is a harrowing experience and car rentals in Leon are much cheaper than in Guadalajara or Mexico city. |

you can fly to guadalajara n take a bus from there to zacatecas
or u can fly to mazatlan n drive to zacatecas, but its a long drive
or u can fly to los cabos n take a boat from there or from la paz bcs to mazatlan n drive again lol bt the boat ride is only about 40 dollars.

I would suggest perhaps Fly into a Major Mexican City Like Cancun,Mexico city,Guadalajara,Monterrey and then Bus it from there..sometimes that could save you lots of money..also say where youre flying from to better advice you..but to start your search try looking at the following airlines
