American Living in Culiacan, Mexico? |
I have a job offer to work in Culiacan, Mexico. I've heard certain areas of Mexico aren't safe for Americans. Is this so with Culiacan (especially living there; not visiting)?
Thanks |

Hi. I have not been to Culiacan. It is a large city of over half a million. I am sure there is crime there as there is in all large cities. It is ( from what I have read) a beautiful city, and is the state capital. I believe you would be perfectly safe there. If you have common sense and use it, you will be fine. Your employer can educate you on the different parts of town and recommend where to live. 99% of the people and places in Mexico are perfectly safe. I am a single American woman living alone in Mexico in an area with few gringos and I have absolutely no safety problems. Your employer will need to help you get an FM3 visa with a work permit. If I can help with with any details about coming to Mexico or visas or living here, just email me. Best wishes on your new adventure. |

Well Culiacan does have some issues with the gangs in there is the center of operations of the Sinaloa Cartel, (one of the largest drug smugglers organizations), but i have been there several times and i feel safe in there, most of the crimes ( not that many crimes) have something to do with the cartel so people who lives there and does have nothing to do with smugglers doesn't have a thing to concern about, if is there a problem with Culiacan its the temperature, it's way to hot, i was there in december and by noon we were at 90 + degrees, so it's hot during the summer it reaches 110 °F sometimes more ...uff
hope it helps |

Wow!
Go visit & check it out. I have never been to Culican but I have been into Mexico many times and I have experienced nothing but warm hospitality! I guess it would depend also on how large the city is. Small village, impoverished, large city, tourist attraction etc. I love the country, culture & people. That my plan for retirement!

Culican is the MOST dangerous city in Sinaloa. It is the murder capital of Mexico. That being said, almost all crime is drug related. If you are not involved in drugs, your chance of being a victim are very small. |

No that's one of the safest parts of Mexico. There exists a code of honor among criminals, you'll fit right in. |
