American citizen married a Mexican citizen and we want to move to Mexico...where do we begin?

I am an American citizen and my husband is a Mexican citizen with Permanent Residence status in the United States. We currently live in Texas and plan to move to Mexico by 2011. We will have one child by then, and he/she will have dual citizenship. We will be moving with the intentions of my husband to take over his family's business in the Queretaro area and I will be a stay-at-home mom. Where do we begin for getting prepared to move and actually moving?

For example, I know I need to register at the American Embassy when we arrive in Mexico, but how do I go about getting Mexican citizenship or at least permanent residency so I can stay without having to worry about coming back every 6 months or a year?

Also, are there any highly-recommended, insured moving companies out there that will move us from internationally from Texas to Central Mexico?

Are there any websites out there where I can start looking for houses? We haven't decided if we will rent or buy at the beginning, but is there anything I need to know that is different in the realtor world of Mexico?

I would like any and all advice you have for my situation...

Thank you very much, in advance!

Jessi K - Don't you think if we were running from the law we would be looking to move now...not in 2011...if you don't have advice then don't waste your time or mine writing anything...

I love Queretaro!

ABOUT IMMIGRATION:
Best to hire an immigration attorney to get you residence status which you should be able to get rather easy since you are married to a Mexican citizen. Through the immigration attorney, learn how you get eventually get the citizenship. I suggest that you let the attorney handle the rather complicated paperwork.

ABOUT MOVERS:
Mayflower is one of the companies that can move you. I used them and they were careful when packing, everything arrived in perfect condition and timely. They carry insurance but you have about 30 days to make any claim. They will not let you transfer liquour, flour, sugar and things like accross the border and it is not cheap so be wise as to what you really want to bring with you.

ABOUT HOME PURCHASE:
Do not buy right away. Rent a place first and get familiar with areas so you know where you want to establish yourself. During the time that you lease, get to know people and get recommendations also regarding a real estate agent to assist you perhaps. Real Estate business operates very different over there and is low tech.

I wish I could tell you specifically which areas would be best for you. Fortunately, your husband's family lives there. I am sure they would not mind driving you around and give you their opinion. Your own perception will be very important too.

There's a lot of good information on Rolly Brooks website--click the link below.
If you are married to a Mexican who is employed in México, you may qualify for an ama de casa. This allows you to get an FM2 or FM3 visa without having to show an income from outside México. Go to your local INM office to get instructions.
Queretaro is a lovely city, but pack an electric blanket--you'll get some chilly mornings in January when you'll be glad you have it.

Start with the American embassy I really hope you have put a lot of thought about doing this. Cause if you were asking me my opinion I would tell you ,you're making a very Big mistake! but it's your life you do what you want. Wow

Jessie K
So your goal is that in three years you will be out of work and living in Mexico. That's like the goal of someone running from the law.
