Another question about Mexico? |
When I go to Cuernavaca and Mexico City this summer...is there a certain way you reccomend for me to dress so I don't basically have TOURIST written on my forehead. Any traveling suggestions for someone who has never been to Mexico before? I am pretty good at speaking at Spanish, not fluent but can communicate. Anything you wanna tell me is great!! |

Just dress like you do at home in the summer. Travel suggestions, drink only bottle water and bring some Imodium and pepto with you since your food/drink diet will change and your digestive system may get a little upset. Mine does but my husband doesn't.
have a great trip

well, i'm really surprised that they wear shorts there! (as someone previously said) i was going to say jeans and a tshirt is fine, or like a tank top or something. i've never seen a mexican woman wear shorts, but this person lives there so i guess she knows. basically what is available to buy for clothing in mexico is jeans, fitted t's, tanks, some skirts, and...yeah, that's it. and a lot of really horrible man made fabric tight pants in colors that pants should never come in. so stick with that. i wouldn't wear a skirt that goes above your knees...that might make you stick out. i don't see too many mexicans wearing flip flops, mostly actual sandals. avoid "safari wear" like those cargo quick dry shorts...i mean, i love them, and i don't care if i look like a tourist. believe it or not, unless you are hispanic, or african american, you are going to wear WHITE PERSON like a big sign with flashing lights. i don't know what it is...but people can tell when they look at me a kilometer away, seriously. don't worry so much about blending in, because i really don't think you will! and that's ok! |

Cuernavaca is a hip modern town and very loose. Anything other than looking like you just came from the beach will be fine |

I have lived in Cuernavaca and Mexico City, in the summer it gets really hot, REALLY, so make sure to be as loose as you want to, specially in Cuernavaca were the environment is way laid-back than in Mexico City. Either way make sure to have plenty of t-shirts and jeans, a sweatshirt as it may get chilly by late night (not everyday but once), polo shirts are great and if you already speak Spanish, well honey, you´re ready to come over to Mexico! Welcome! |

I have been close to Mexico City where my husband's family lives, and I usually wear pants and t-shirts or tank tops. As someone previously mentioned, I don't see many people (girls or guys) wearing shorts, but the girls do wear skirts quite often. Just try to be comfortable and you should be fine.
As far as blending, that won't be so easy if you are fair like me. I mean there are some people that are fair skinned there, but whenever I go to Mexico, I am starred at alot. And when I say alot I mean ALOT!! But don't let it bother you, other than looking at you, the people won't bother you. It took me about 2-3 days to get used to it. As my husband said, here in the US we are so blended, but if we weren't and someone "different" looking came, we would be curious too. Just have fun. I have come to love mexico very much and have some great memories, I cant wait to go back. |

I'd sat jeans and t-shirts are more common.
Remember to bring mosquito repellent, and sun screen.
as you would be using it every day try to get the one that is
not oily. I think Coppertone has a Oil free version.
Good Luck ! |

Don´t worry, if you wear shorts, everybody wears shorts, and shirts because of the weather. It is hot, you can dress as if you were in Florida. Classical summer clothes. just have a great trip and enjoy. |
