Oh, please...there are bad people everywhere you go. So don't pick on Cancun.
I am an American living in Cancun. I live in downtown not the tourist area and I feel very safe. As in any "big" city there are areas that you don't travel to after dark.
If you stay in the tourist zone you will be paying the highest prices and there are some great restaurants downtown that are very affordable.
The most important advice that I can give you is use your common sense and have a wonderful vacation! |

To be honest, i would have to say that cancun has some of the most humble people.
everyone there takes the time to learn english, simply because it's more conviniant for everyone, and they'd be more than happy to help or direct you if you ask.
the golden rule applys everywhere; treat others as you would like to be treated. I would have to say that's one of the best cities i've ever traveled to in mexico. and i'm mexican; and traveled all over my wonderful country.

Advice on Mexico/Cancun
1. don't drink the water( I'm sure u know this!)
2. We went down there for vacation and found its easier to take the bus or a cab because driving is somewhat difficult down there.
3.I think the locals are very nice. Especially at your hotel (we stayed at the palace resorts) |

I am just back from cancun 3 pieces of advice...
1. watch crossing the street, make sure you use cross walks and wait for the light
2. stay away from time share people they are everywhere, not only do they waste your time, it ruins your vacation. they are everywhere airport, malls, hotels....
3. relax have fun the locals are nice just do what you would do in any major city |

One big warning about Cancun are all the underage kids from the US who only go to get drunk and party. There will be plenty of them. There really isn't much outside of the tourist zone for people to see, unless you go farther out to the ruins. |

cancun was built to be a tourist city. there is a saying by many mexicans that cancun is void of all morals and values. the people who live there can't afford to do anything in their own city....and they are all there as a result of the tourism...the town wouldn't even be there otherwise. i don't recomment leaving the tourist zone because there is no reason too, and yeah, it's pretty nasty.
i feel bad "warning" you about the locals...they just do what they think they have to do....but yes, some may steal from you, and yes they may take advantage of you. |
