Change your English money to pesos. That's the currency used in Mexico. Otherwise, you'll be changing currency twice. There is usually a commission charged each time. You can change some money in England or at the airport. If you are arriving late at night in Mexico City, you may want to change it before you get to the exit area. If you flash a lot of cash, you are advertising yourself to muggers.
Your ATM card should work in the Mexican ATM's. Your balance will show in pesos there, not pounds. I withdrew money from my bank account as I needed it.

Funny you should ask, we are going next year and have been told that excursions through you hotel say, use American and souvenirs use Mexican as they round it up to the nearest dollar when then use American and it costs you more. |

I would change a bit of money before you go so you will have some when you get there for tips and things. They love tips so tip well and they will be nicer toward you. Stay clear of money exchange places near resorts or hotels. Let me rephase that some resorts do have good rates. The best is to find a bank and change it there. Also do alot of research before you go so you will not get swindled. As you are leaving the airport stay away from the people trying to get you to stay at their hotel or resort. It's for timeshares and all they want is your money. Use a taxi to get to your hotel, it's a lot cheaper. Do not worry most people around the resorts and hotels speak english well enough for you to ask questions. Mexico is fun so relax and enjoy. |

Get dollars before you leave, exchange for pesos when you get to your destination. I saw a sign in a Mexican bank for exchange for euros, but it is in a town where there are many tourists. US dollars accepted everywhere unless paying utllities or taxes. Bien Viaje. |

I would recommend US Dollars when travelling in Mexico. In the main cities Dollars are easily converted to Pesos and credit cards are widely accepted. However, in the provinces, dollars are generally not accepted. In the main Pacific and Caribbean resorts dollars are the preferred currency, but beware of being ripped off by un-licencensed beaureax de change. Try get rid of all Mexican currency before leaving as it is difficult to change outwith the country. |

The Peso is the proper currency when trading in Mexico. Charge card purchases are charged the prevailing rate for that day, so they are often the best bet from an exchange perspective. Come, bebe y baila mucha! Eat, drink and dance a lot!) |

only been for day on various trips-from San Diego and off Caribbean cruise ships-one day at a time more than long enough-pretty 3rd world and lots of low/cheap class tourists.Stick to US dollars and you won't lose on having to change pesos back |

Just use pesos everywhere..and don't worry about trying to "convert" everytime you make a purchase. Unless you're buying a car or something big, the difference (even in "their" favor) amounts to a few cents..not worth the bother. I live here (Mexico) and the only places that you have to be "on your guard" with money matters, are gas stations and Casa de Cambios (currency changing stores). Enjoy! |
