Anyone ever stayed in the Riviera Maya?

Me and my husband want a romantic resort in Cancun, but the one that I have settled on is technically in the Riviera Maya. I am worried that it will be out of the way of excursions, tours, and nightlife of Cancun. Are those things easily accessible from the Mayan Riviera? Thanks in advance for any advice!

The Riviera Maya is much more romantic than Cancun. Cancun is very fun if you are into the night life; however, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Xel-Hal, Xcaret, Tulum are located on the Riviera Maya. Playa del Carmen has a very active nightlife, as well as a more casual and smaller atmosphere setting. Chichen Itza and Uxmal are all accessible from hotel excursions, and are wonderful site to see. Uxmal does an evening light show, which you can't miss if you get a chance. You can spend an entire day in Cozumel and travel around the island by motorbike or by renting a jeep. There are beautiful sites to see all over the Yucatan and Quintana Roo. There are also many cenotes in and around the Riviera Maya, which are amazing to see and swim in. If you are looking for more information on the Riviera Maya, the Yucatan Today website is a good resource. In future my husband and I will be putting together small tours to the Yucatan and the Riveria Maya. If you enjoy your trip and would like to see more of this beautiful place, lets us know.

I went to Cozumel in 2003. If you enjoy nature, sightseeing, and outdoor activities, you'll love it. If you want the nightlife too, there are places like Senor Frog's in Playa del Carmen, and Cancun is only about 30 to 40 minutes away. It's a great place for scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailng and other activities. The Mayan ruins at Tulum are fascinating and very scenically located on a hill overlooking the ocean. There are some great restaurants too. One of my favorites was Casa Mission. Its grounds take up a whole block, and it even has a miniature zoo in back.

You are actually in the perfect location. You are in a more central location. Most of the excursions are along the Riviera Maya: Tulum, Playa de Carmen, ferry to Cozumel and Xel-ha. Cancun is about a 30-45 min drive away. Chichenitza is a 4-5 hour drive. To get around, I recomend taking the local bus for less than a dollar per person. Its fast, safe and cheap, plus you don't have to worry about directions or parking. Taxis are also available for a bit more. I don't recommend renting a car, but using the bus system to get around unless you are going to Chichenitza, then rent a car.
Have fun.

RIVIERA MAYA IS ABOUT 20 TO 25 MINUTES SOUTH OF CANCUN AND IT IS A BIT SECLUDED. IT IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL PLACE AND THE BEACH THERE IS FANTASTIC. EXCURSIONS AND TOURS ARE VERY CLOSE.....AS MOST OF THEM ARE IN TULUM OR PLAYA DEL CARMEN. SO THAT WONT BE A PROBLEM. IT IS NOT CONVENIENT TO THE NIGHTLIFE OF CANCUN.....ACTUALLY IT IS A PAIN TO TRAVEL BACK AND FORTH...OF COURSE...DEPENDING ON WHICH RESORT YOU ARE STAYING AT. IF YOU WOULD PROVIDE ME WITH THE NAME OF THE RESORT I COULD BE MORE SPECIFIC IN MY ANSWER. DID YOU CONSIDER DREAMS IN CANCUN.....IT IS WONDERFUL.....AS WELL AS RIU CARIBE. DREAMS IS IN THE HEART OF THE CANCUN NIGHTLIFE. YOU CAN EMAIL ME IF YOU WANT MORE INFO.
