We want to go somewhere really special. I would like there to be beaches but not a huge tourist factory. I would also like it to be kind of secluded and romantic. We have a one year old and just want it to be about the two of us for awhile.
It is in the northeast of the Yucatan Peninsula . It is a tiny island called Holbox. It has very good hotel options (5*'s to little luxury hotels).
It has been our getaway a couple of times and is just perfect to relax, eat well, get completely out of the routine!
The highlights of the place: Cannot start with other but the Caribbean colours! Good Diving/ snorkeling (From June to Sept you must not miss swimming with the whale sharks), fishing, ecotours.
Just take a dip in "http://www.bestday.com/Holbox/".
I am SURE, you will love the place...

Try Zihuatanejo. Lots of different beaches, and it has a true Mexican feel to it. Ixtapa is about 5 miles away, and that's touristy, but Zihua is beautiful and relaxing. I've heard "La Casa que Canta" is extraordinary if you can afford it!
You may also want to try Isla Mujeres- an island off of Cancun. My cousin went there for her honeymoon and raved. Also, you get the prettier Caribbean beaches.

Any of the Palace Resorts would be nice.
Cozumel has a new resort call Sabor it is an adult only resort with swim up rooms. It is amazing. It is a division of the less expenseive Ref Club. I have been there four times and they just remodled it and built the new resort next door. It is not near the party town as Cancun, but offer a small night life if you are interested. The beaches are usually pretty private. My husband and I rented a jeep in Cozumel and drove to the other side of the island with the big waves and to the ruins in the middle of the island. It was romantic.
