Hello to Danger

Anyone know any nice beach towns to visit in Mexico?

Im traveling to mexico this summer and would like to go somewhere quite with good beaches-I would like to avoid all the tourist and overcrowding you see in Mazatlan,P. Vallarta.,Ensenada etc.

Puerto Escondido would be my choice, given your preferences. There are inexpensive hotels, as well as higher-end ones, but it remains a small place. It does host an annual international surfing competition, so you might not want to be there then.

By bus or rental car, you can make trips to Manialtepec (lagoons), Puerto Angel (with Zipolite Beach, a nude beach), or Huatulco (which I don't recommend, but it's worth a day). All these are small places, without the atmosphere of Vallarta, Mazatlan, etc.

I'd avoid the Yucatan, Quintana Roo (unless you like pyramids),Cozumel, Isla Mujeres experience. The cruise ships all put in at Cozumel, so it's a bit of a zoo.

Isla Mujeres was fabulous when I first went there, but that was about 1970. Next time I went, the streets were paved. The third time, it was packed with tourists. Sigh. Oh, well.

Buen viaje.

It really depends on what you like, there are tons of great places in Mexico, but i see you like the beach, so let me tell you. Cozumel is a very small island near Cancun, what is great about it is the color of the sea and the views. You can also snorkel and everything but swimming is hard because the water is very low. In Cancun there are a lot of tourists and it is more expensive than other places, it is a very americanized place. Acapulco is great if you prefer a mexican style vacation... there are american tourists, but not as much as in Cancun. It is not very expensive as Cancun is, but the sea is not that colorful. However the weather is great and they are very nice there. In Puerto Vallarta you can find an Acapulco idea, but with more tourists and there is more construction, not that virgin. Cabo is also great, there are a lot of golf places, the sea is great and the weather too. Its up to you!!! But I'm sure you will enjoy your vacation in Mexico. Good luck!

mmmmmm.. You have a nice question. I am Mexican, and I can tell you that every beach (without counting Acapulco) I've visited in my country is really beautiful, so you won't get dissapointed. I suggest you to travel to Chetumal (it's near Cancun but is not overcrowded)
It's a beautiful place and, by driving an hour more or less, you can reach one of the beaches I like the most: Mahahual. It is usually deserted (just 2 or 3 families and some restaurants) besides, it has beautiful views, clear waters and white sand. Probably when you get there you'll find tourists that come in a cruise, don't worry, they leave before 4:00 pm
Hope you have fun
PS: Mexico is nor dirty nor dangerous, just some cities are, so don't worry

Zihuatanejo (Ixtapa´s town) it has a great beach named La Ropa
(remember the movie when a man loves a woman) There are some hotel boutiques take a look to www.villaluz.com.mx or www.quintatroppo.com.mx.

pretty much all mexico destinations are now overpopulated with tourists.. Good beaches ? What do you mean by this? Nice clear water? If you don't care about the water.. I visited this place about 4yrs ago and it was quiet at least where we stayed , it was... Are you going on a romantic getaway? If so let me recommend this hotel La Casa Que Canta in Zihjuatanejo / Ixtapa.. This hotel is pricey but worth it.. No Tv no radio in the rooms that is.... if you ever saw the movie When a Man Loves a Woman with Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia this is the same hotel,,... la casa que canta.com Good luck

Play del Carmen. You can also take the ferry over to cozumel island from there. Great snorkelling and diving in both places as well as sandy beaches
