Anyone stay at a RIU hotel in Cancun?

I am going to Cancun in July and was wondering which of the three RIU hotels are the best? There is the RIU Cancun, the RIU Caribe, and the RIU Las Americas. Please let me know your opinions on any or all of them. Thanks

We stayed at the Riu Cancun and had a blast. We were choosing between the Riu Palace and the Riu Cancun. We chose the Cancun because it was cheaper, with only minor differences between the two. The standard rooms at the Palace are larger, and I believe you can have a room service breakfast as part of the all-inclusive services. You also have access to the Cancun hotel, but the Cancun does not have access to the Palace.

Anyway, we were thrilled with the Riu Cancun and would definitely go back.

The pools were awesome - they had 4 pools, all good sized. One has a swim-up bar in it, with some little whirlpool areas. Another was used a lot for water volleyball and such. One (or maybe two) had sections where the lounge chairs can actually rest in the pool. They were great.

The beach was also really nice - plenty of nice chairs, plenty of umbrellas if you want shade.

The activities staff work hard to keep you entertained, day and night. They do a great job, and there is plenty to do if you want to do something other than lay around the pool and swim.

The food was great. There was a big breakfast buffet, with everything you could imagine. For lunch you could eat an indoor buffet or an outdoor buffet. There were 4 choice for dinner - Japanese, Mediterranean, outdoor patio steakhouse, or a buffet with different theme each night (Italian, Mexican, etc). We ate very well, and never tired of the food at all.

Drinks are also plentiful. The bars were all very good - tip a bit and you get better service. There is also a liquor dispenser in the room, complete with a fridge full of possible mixers and beer and water. That's all included in the price.

We hope to be able to go back to Cancun in a few years, and we'll definitely be staying there again.

I've stayed @ the RIU in Cabo San Lucas - it was very nice. I liked that they stocked the fridge in our room with Coronas!

Check www.applevacations.com for the RIUs in Cancun, they have a 'golden apple' rating system which may help you. Generally, if you stay @ a nicer hotel, you can always ask for / bargain for an upgrade once you get there. You may get a better deal than if you were to book the nicest room online OR in advance :)

Ive stayed at the RIU Cancun 3 times in the last 3 years and it is my favorite hotel in the world. RIU palace is good to but it shares the same property as the RIU Cancun its just more expensive because the rooms are nicer and the Palace has 1 extra restaurant.

I Did! We stayed at the RIU Palace and we were told by many people it was the nicest resort in Cancun. We LOVED IT! The food was great, the activities were fun, beach was nice and the best part was the staff. Every single person that worked there were so nice and accommodating.
The Japanese Restaurant was delicious!
The only down point was the bed was a little hard but all you had to do was ask and they will send up a mattress pad.
This place is beautiful and we can't wait to go back!
