bringmeflowers,

Anyone who's been to Puerto Vallarta, answer please!..?

i'm traveling to Puerto Vallarta Mexico this spring break, and i am REALLY excited =] but i don't know much about the place, plus i've never been further than a few hours away from ohio. if anyone could tell me a bit about the place, that would be great -- also, any tips on WHAT TO PACK, advice about the PLANE RIDE [never flown before], or other useful info would be so greatly appreciated!

any questions just ask,

p.s. we're staying at an all inclusive resort on the beach, not for sure which one [i just received the news that i was invited by my friend today]

I just returned from my 4th trip to P.V. where I stay at an all-inclusive resort on the beach....LOVE IT THERE!! Depending on how long you will be there, take it easy the first few days and drink alot of bottled water along with whatever else your choice is...I have alot of books and also use google for info and helpful websites to visit in advance. Don't bother taking traveler's checks, just take cash and plastic. You should get some of your money "changed" into pesos at either airport. It's not hard to do this and it also can be done where you're staying or nearby. The resort is your best way to make reservations for tours, restaurants, etc. They will have deals to offer and want to help make your stay pleasant. If planning to do shopping, aim for near the end of the week and remember that many things that can be found in the flea market are also sold by vendors on the beach AND at the duty-free shops in the airport before leaving! Great deals there on perfumes, vanilla, booze that can be taken onto the plane! Have fun, relax, be polite and remember most folks there speak better English than the tourists know their language. Click the link below and read about 135 things you can do around Puerto Vallarta. You must do the Canopy Tours de Los Veranos. On YouTube, search for "zip line Puerto Vallarta" to see what it's like.

We went to a book store and bought a paperback about Puerto Vallarta. It had information about day cruises, local markets, restaurants and their prices, and everything the city has to offer. One of the best things we ever did. The whole city caters to tourists and was one of the BEST vacations we have taken. You'll love it. If it is in your budget, buy shirts and swim wear when you get there. VERY good deals.

You've got some good answers already so I'll just add a few minor ones.
Walk the malecon. Visit the plaza at the end often they have something going on that's a lot of fun....Walk through the old town for great little cafes and restaurants, shops, etc.
Take the bus whenever you can. More fun and it's only about 50 to 60 cents USD. (about 7.50 pesos).
Best exchange rate we ever got was at HSBC on the main drag. They post it in the window.
If you take a cab, be sure you know the fare before leaving. many will drive you all over before getting to your desatination. Get a map so you know where you are.
As far as the plane, if you're scared, try to get an aisle seat and pretend you're on a bus. If not scared, take a window seat and enjoy the sight. Regardless, read the safety literature for that plane in the pouch on the back of seat in front of you.
Take a day and bus over to Punta de Mita, sit at a covered table on the beach and have lunch, walk around the little communityStop by Bucerias on the way back and walk around there. Great little restaurants, shops, etc.
. If you're into wanting to know about the culture a little, take the bus out of Mismaloya and do a day trip to El Tuito. Nice, quiet little town south a bit. Or to Tepic, a few hours up a gorgeous route in Nayarit (next state north.)
Be patient, courteous, respectful. It is another country so try to learn at least some simple Spanish terms. Hola...Gracias....Como esta?....etc.

Bring your summer clothes! It's going to be hot!

Listen to the flight attendants and NEVER use FM radios, cell phones, anything that sends waves, in the plane. If you get nervous, look at the children on the plane. I did because it made me realize how dorky I looked being terrified while this 9 year old kid stares at me like, "wow this guy's crazy!" Also, when the plane experiences turbulence, keep your seat belt on!

When you get to Puerto Vallarta, BE AWARE of your surroundings, don't be a show-off, and have fun!

It will be hot.

Listen to the instructions given about emergency procedures on the plane.

Nice. Have fun. Don't forget you are in a foreign country, even if it is an all inclusive resort.

I was in puerto vallarta last may at dreams. Here are some tips:

Hotel:
1) Know when the restaurants/bars open and close
2) Bring a good amount of singles for tips
3) Prearrange a cab to and from the airport! When you get there walk straight through the crazy crowd of cabbies and bullsh*t companies and look for your name and/or hotel. This is honestly the scariest part of the trip.
4) Pack a light sweater and possibly a second bathing suit.
5) Don't forget about the travel restrictions on liquids.
6) Please don't drink the water, bottled water for everything! Don't drink it at the restaurants and make sure you ask for all your drinks with no ice.
7) Plan an excursion! We did a sailboat ride, it was honestly the most relaxing and fun time I have ever had. Absolutely worth the $100 a person.

Airplane:
1) Bring a decent sized book to read and make sure your ipod is fully charged.
2) Give yourself 2-3 hours before the flight is scheduled to start boarding.
3) Don't check anything (make sure your friends don't either), everything you will need CAN fit in a carry-on.
