I think you have to check on the labels of individual products. I searched under "fair trade," "Mexico," and "strawberries," (something you should be doing.......) and didn't really answer the question if any of Mexico's strawberry exports are "fair trade" or not. There is a lot of coffee from the state of Chiapas that IS fair trade but couldn't find anything on strawberries.
Maybe when you ask this question you should give a reference about the "fair trade" program. (I wouldn't have had a clue, except I'm an English teacher in Mexico and that subject came up on one of our lessons.)
I DO know that the area around Irapuato in Guanajuato State produces some of the best strawberries in the world and we always buy baskets from the many stands along the side of the freeway when we are up there. |

The best answer is NO; unless the product is specifically marketed as Fair Trade strawberries. |

I can't say about fair trade and such (not something I know much about), but if you can, avoid mexican strawberries. It's okay to eat everything else, but not strawberries.
It's common street knowledge that strawberries here are watered with sewage water (don't ask me why though) and that the parasite that causes cicticerus infection can grow right inside of them. Even if you leave them soasking in iodine for an hour, it's not enough to kill the parasite unless you actually cook the fruit.
Even so, I do eat starberries & cream desserts every now and then... ^^' |

Maybe I´m wrong but the so called "fair trade" is about "dumping" prices, that means in the case of strawberries, for example, that the goverment of Mexico will give a subsidie to strawberrie producers, and with that, the price of export strawberries will cost much less than the Strawberries that are from the USA....
But Mexico is not giving subsidies like that to any farm products.... So in that aspect Mexican Strawberries have a fair trade for export to the USA. |
