I think there is more of an Arabic look than a Mexican look. But let's see. About 5% of Mexicans are white. This includes people whose ancestry is European gentile, European Jewish and Arabic. About 65% of Mexicans are of mixed race, mainly European and Amerind with a bit of African, and Asian (mostly Chinese and Japanese) thrown in. The remaining 30% or so are pure blooded or nearly pure blooded Amerinds.

Mexico was colonized by Spain shortly after the end of seven centuries of Moorish/Arab rule. Many of the Spanish men who came to Mexico brought Arabic genes. Those Arab genes are circulating in that 65% of the poulation who are of mixed race.

During the Lebanese fight for independence from Syria many Lebanese arrived here as refugees. Their descendants have since become very successful and influential members of Mexican society. So there are in fact Mexicans who look Arabic. Perhaps the most famous Mexican worldwide at this time is Salma Hayek who is of Arabic ancestry.

So there IS a genetic relationship between some Arabs and soem Mexicans.

On the other hand, Americans of pale complexion think that anyone with dark hair and eyes is Amerind, Italian, Arabic, Hispanic, etc. Just ask me, a white Irish-American with dark brown hair who grew up in the South, went to colleghe in the midwest and now lives in Mexico.

Best wishes

Vaggaloor
actually, we are related.

Arabs conquered Spain, and ruled there 500 years, obviusly mixing races. In the same year arabs were taken out from Spain, América (the continent, not USA) was discoverd by spaniards (1492). Spaniards conquered Mexico in 1521 and ruled here 300 years (less than arabs at Spain), mixing races obviusly.

In fact, not all mexicans looka alike arabs, only "mestizos".
And, besides, it has been a lot immigration to Mexico, including many lebannon people.

Muslims conquered Spain fro 800 years after the Prophet Muhammad(s) past away.... the christians fought back to regain their terrirtory and won.... in 1502 Cortes (who was from Spain) defeated the Aztecs. Cortes and his men gained control of all the land in Mexico and South America and people from Spain started settling there

Alex
Spaniards are more related to arabs for historical reasons, actually, spanish language has a lot of arab terms

weechi
well, they are related....we are all related really. but...they say that the arabic and spanish language have many similarities. also, most all mexicans are part spaniard...which is very close to the middle east....and i'm sure if you believe in the kuran or bible, you may know that we all came from one race....or at least that is the thought.

often my boyfriend's father is mistaken for middle eastern. so...i have noticed this too!

As other answers told you Mexico was conquered by Spain and Spain by that time had 500 years of Arab ocupation.

pero_102
most probably, since during those days, seafarers was an occupation almost no one would like, so the need to kidnap hands on board was a practice, and who would be the most likely candidates to be sent to suicidal voyages, the defeated moors or remnants from the regained territory of spain.
this is most probable too when spain easily got good relationship with the early natives of the philippines which were inhabited by muslims in general too.
the discoverer of the philippines, ferdinand magellan, had his personal belongings kept in a museum, and one of them is a quran.

patodelamuerte
Besides the obvious connection of Moorish Spain to Mexico, all "humans" look alike in some way or another. Of course, we then tend to place people in categories according to skin tone and then other features.

After all, how many people believe that Vietnamese look like Japanese?

As a Mexican-American who has traveled to different parts of the world, I have been mistaken for Filipino, Virgin Islander, Spaniard, Indian, and. yes, Arab.

It's just a matter of skin tone.

we are not related but if u go back to the Pangaea theory (which states that all the continents were once together) u will c that mexico is located in the same line as some arab countries, even India, or some asian countries; so that might be n explanation of why we look alike n even have similar gastronomies, like spicy foods, fruits n vegetables, etc

Mohamed
You will find spaniards looking like us ,maybe some mexicans. The majority of mexicans are from the Inca
and Maya ancestoral empires.
Salaam my sister Mohamed

Nadine
no they are not related. arabs are originally from the arabian peninsula and some migrated to areas north(middle east) and north africa.

mexicans are a mix of spanish and native american. so there aren't any common ancestors b/w them.

i have never seen a mexican that looked arab, or an arab that looked mexican. but everyone sees different similarities b/w people, but i just don't think they look alike

edit: arabs conquered spain and some did mix w/ the spanish, but there weren't that many and certainitely not enough to say that they are related and besides saudis and yemenis lived in spain so that would mean that mexicans would loosely be related to them. but this relation is a stretch, and most mexicans have no arab blood
