Are there waterfalls in Cozumel? How do I find them? |
I am going to Cozumel next weekend and I have heard there are some amazing waterfalls to check out, but when I go and search the internet, nothing comes up. Is anyone familiar with these waterfalls? Do you know where I can find them or is there a map that shows them? Also, we want to rent a car for a day to check out the island. Is it better to get the car now or wait until we get down to Cozumel? Thank you! |

As far as i know there are no waterfalls here on Cozumel...sorry! The Island is mostly flat.
You can rent a car when You get here. The best prices i know of are at Less Pay located in the Barracuda Hotel.
Enjoy ! The weather is great right now!! |

Hey Wheezy,
As someone who likes waterfalls, and who doesn't know anything about Cozumel, I did a little searching via Internet encyclopedia* for you. Apparently, Cozumel is a very flat island, so no waterfalls, but it has sinkholes called Cenotes. As island streams flow downhill to the sea their water may fall into one of these sinkholes. Could these be the waterfalls you heard about?
As I did more searching, I found a satellite photo* at Yucatan Expeditions that points out the Cenotes on Cozumel. It seems that snorkeling and scuba diving in these holes is very popular.
They look like lots of fun. I hope you get to swim in some.

I dont know of any waterfalls in Cozumel. Of course there are some at the hotels and houses, but there really arent any hills or maountains for water to be "falling" off.... |

I'm not aware of any natural ones, just man-made ones in homes or hotels. If somebody else has seen it, let me know. I spent a couple of months in those islands 20 years ago. Try the State of Chiapas for waterfalls like Agua Azul, which is gorgeous. Rental cars in Mexico usually are not so inexpensive. Have a great trip and vaya con dios. |
