bring a good amount of cash, because depending where you're going, there may not be a good place to exchange your checks. personally, i'd just settle my hotel with credit, and bring cash for everything else. |

Always you have a bank or a exchange house near to you it is. Otherwise traveler cheques are not widely accepted in most of comerces. |

Travelers Checks only as a backup. Get your pesos from ATM machines at banks, big box groceries or airport. Bring some cash to get started and change it airport 'casa de cambios'. Use credit cards only in large hotels or national grocery chains (or in an ATM). Tell your bank you'll be in Mexico or they may cut you off. |

Yes, if you're traveling in a city. You'll probably be exchanging your dollars for pesos. Use a bank for best rate. Travels checks in U.S. Dollars won't do much for you in Mexico except for the exchange unless a particular place accepts them. |

Are you still living in nineteenth century? Who on Earth still uses travellers checks? Get a bank card - there are thousands of ATM machines to withdraw your money 24 hours a day, at will. Do not look for trouble trying to find a bank, go there when it's open (they are closed on weekends and at nights, when suddenly cash reserves are going very low).
Get a plastic. |

From experience, sparks_me has it right. If you are travelling with someone else, divvy up your cash and cards that you need for the day (keep all the rest in your hotel vault). |
